FROM THE HART Going 'Dutch' on the first date
by Taylor Hart
Advice on love, relationships, and other issues relevant to sexual minorities. Dear Taylor,
A few nights ago I met a great guy who asked me out for dinner and a movie. We are both financially comfortable. My question is, who pays?
To Pay or Not to Pay
Dear Toupee (sorry, I couldn't resist),
By tradition, the person who extends the invitation generally pays the bill. However, I think it is much better to 'go Dutch,' with each person paying for their own expenses, especially for the first few dates. This way no one feels obligated to anyone else, in any way, and by doing so you have created the idea of equal partnership right from the very beginning. A relationship built on a founda-

tion of equal partnership and equal responsibility is more likely to succeed.
I suspect that a few readers will disagree with this advice, but I firmly stand by it.
Dear Taylor,
How does someone become an advice columnist?
Dear Wannabee,
Ann Landers Wannabee
Well, somebody finally asked a question I can't answer. Frankly, I haven't a clue. Just a bit of trivia for you: When a reader once asked Ann Landers the same question, she replied, "I know of no training that will qualify a person to be a general advice columnist. Personally, I think advice columnists are born that way!"
I agree with Ann. Heaven knows that I have been sticking my nose in other people's problems long before I ever heard of the Gay People's Chronicle! ♡

OUT OF THE CLOSET!
Tom Bennett, the owner of STILL WATERS is proud to be out of the closet both in his business and in his personal life. It is his hope to be an example in the community. Tom started his own business because of discrimination in the workplace.
Fortunately, being gay has not been a deterrent in his own business. Still Waters was the first openly gay business granted a loan by the Columbus Countywide Developement Corporation (a governmental agency).
In August it was announced that Tom Bennett would be listed in
the
1994/95
Who's Who International Registry of Business Leaders. He attributes this honor to the commitment of himself and his openly gay employees to serve both the gay and non-gay community in an open and honest way (being out).
STILL WATERS is a Massage Clinic and a Natural Health outlet specializing in herbs.
